Upcoming Webinars at the HLAA site:
1 – Hidden Heroes: The Importance of Caregivers to the Health and Well Being of the Veteran
We envision an America where military caregivers are empowered, appreciated, and recognized for their service to our nation.
When it comes to the health and well-being of veterans and service members, one of the most underutilized forms of support is their caregiver. Caregivers manage medication and appointments, assist with activities of daily living, provide physical and emotional support, and advocate for their proper care and treatment. They are often the first to notice changes in the health of their care recipient (for example, changes in hearing ability), and can provide valuable insight to the service provider about the day-to-day condition of the veteran or service member. When caregivers are involved, veterans play a more active role in their own health care.
Laurel Rodewald, programs manager for the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, will present on the importance of caregiver education and how service providers can integrate caregivers into the health care plan of the veteran or service member. She will also discuss the efforts of the Foundation to empower and advocate for military caregivers on the national and community level through the recently launched Hidden Heroes Campaign.
